I am consistently on the prowl for fashion illustration that makes me pause, stare and…bookmark. I am 100% one of those people that gets distracted by shiny pieces of plastic disguised as precious metal. For your sake, I bookmark and revisit illustrations, in an effort to avoid a blog full of fleeting images and light text. I probably did not need to re-visit the illustrations of Karina Belikova, her works are the real deal.
Ukrainian illustrator Karina Belikova‘s poignant illustrations are detailed, coloful, vivid compositions with the heart of a freehand capable of producing depth. Beyond the model, the clothes, the trend, the look or the style, Belikova gives us the essence of a show or a photoshoot. Belikova illustrates enough detail that you can look and go, “Aha, Armani Prive”, while simultaneously appreciating the presence of her own spin and interpretation.
I connected with Belikova a few weeks ago, in an effort to get her on board for our Haute Couture Fashion Week project. It never ceases to amaze me how much Google translate lends a hand in communicating with people from around the world. Timing did not quite work out for her to be a part of the collaboration. However, Belikova has been a great sport, created fashion illustrations based on Haute Couture week anyway and I am more than happy to share: these illustrations will be featured in the D2G Apparel shop.
Here’s a preview of her other illustrations including some from her Terry Richardson series and illustrations from past collections.
