I recently came across the illustrations of Joseph Turvey on Trendland.  If you cant tell by now, I have a soft spot for illustrators capable of creating an intense illustration with soft lines and subtle detail.  Turvey is great at making the eyes look so realistic while making the rest of his illustrations consist of much less intricate and nearly non-existent detail.  Take a look at a few of his works below:
